Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I've participated in show and tell, but since I've gotten back into the quilting I thought I would show off my quilt blocks. They aren't perfect but I'm just a beginner and I'm okay with that. I hope to improve with time. I have 14 1/2 blocks made and have 6 1/2 to go before I can start to assemble the quilt and then quilt it. I'm using Lynne Edwards' Making A Sampler Quilt book, published by Reader's Digest (1996). The directions are easy to follow and I've been quite thrilled with my progress. I actually prefer hand stitching to machine work and I love applique!

Your quilt blocks are beautiful and I love the colors. Quilts bring fond memories of my childhood. Grandma and Mom both made them and Mom still does. She will be 81 in September and sews continually. She has a quilt made for everyone in the family except the twins who are only a few weeks old. She is working on those ones now.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful talent.
Blessings,
Mary

Very beautiful!!! I love the colors. =) Out of curiosity since I'm considering this whole quilt thing, about how much time do you think it has taken you? You're handstitching, right?

Kara,
I really can't say how long it has taken me as I've had it set aside for awhile and have just pulled it back out to work on it- the Elm Creek Quilt novels re-inspired me. Also, some of the blocks are machine stitched. (Though all the blocks can be hand stitched.)My machine is currently broken so the rest of my blocks will be handstitched. It is good work to do in the evening when I finally get to sit down and relax. I'm not worried about how long it takes me as I have no deadline. I will say, unless you are a master quilter who churns out prolific work, quilts take time.

Wow! What a treasure you will have when you are finished.

I like handstitching to a point. I don't think I would do a whole quilt that way. I do think it makes it seem more like an authentic quilt.

The idea of a sampler quilt is great. Having examples of the various patterns done in the same fabrics makes a nice composition.
